Over the past 4-years, nearly 1,000-bison have been roaming freely on BLM land south of Malta. That’s about to change with the BLM’s revocation of the grazing permits issued to American Prairie’s Sun Prairie and White Rock units.
Several groups, including the Montana Stockgrowers Association is supporting the revocation of those permits, arguing that the bison are a conservation herd, not production agriculture. American Prairie fires back, saying they’ve either harvested or shipped-out 48% of the 2,100 buffalo they’ve raised over the past 2-decades.
