Saturday was a very busy day for the techs at Montana Sky. About 9:30 that morning, there was a major fiber cut that took-out their entire system–internet, phone service and all their critical systems. The fiber transmission line was cut near the fairgrounds–in a place where it took-down both their primary and backup systems.
This serious situation required over 8-hours of intense repairs for the fiber splicing crews, but full service was restored by 7:30 Saturday night. They tell us that the place where the fiber was cut was owned by a 3rd party.
Montana Sky tells us they’re working on several solutions to prevent a major outage like this from ever happening again.
KGEZ’s 96.5-FM was off-the-air during the outage. Our audio link from our downtown studios to Lone Pine is handled by Montana Sky’s wireless systems.
