A line of gold-colored shovels has dug the first bit of dirt for the new Flathead County Public Safety facility. In all, nearly 20-people–including all 3-Commissioners, Sheriff Brian Heino, Jail Commander Jenny Root and Flathead County Justice of the Peace Eric Hummel celebrated the last phase of a decades-long process of building a new jail.
Appearing on the KGEZ Good Morning Show, County Administrator Pete Melnick tells us this is a moment to celebrate…he reiterates that this was not an easy journey. He talked about the pains the Commissioners and Staff took to make sure Flathead County citizens got the most for their investment.
Now, we learn that the Commissioners have signed a contract with Martel Construction guaranteeing a maximum costs for the new facility. That contract brings the projected cost to 4% less than originally budgeted at $89,895,036.
