The travel season has begun and, although the thru-route of the Going to the Sun Road remains closed, visitors are finding some changes in the way they can enjoy the Park this summer. So far, the road is open up to the Avalanche Campground.
The past few years, Park Administration has been experimenting with a vehicle reservation system. That doesn’t appear to have met expectations, so that system has been thrown-out in favor of an expanded shuttle system. Like the vehicle reservation system, the shuttle system is by reservation only.
As for parking, upwards of 600 new parking slots have been added to the Park’s lower elevations. There’s a 3-hour limit to parking at Logan Pass.
The website, Recreation dot gov is now taking reservations. The system will hold-back some reservations until the night before, so that people can take a shot at getting one if their plans change/
Sun Tours and Red Bus Tours will depart from the Quarter Circle Parking Lot rather than the Agpar Visitors Center.
