The Creston School is hoping to gain accreditation for a middle school. As things stand now, Creston 7th and 8th graders must transfer to either the Kalispell Middle School or to Cayuse Prairie, which has it’s own 7th & 8th grad programs. They’ve applied to the State for accreditation with the hope of receiving it in time to begin next school year.
The current thinking in Creston is that those middle school years are critical and that a change of schools can be very disrupting. But at Creston, they’re working to develop a program similar to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Since most Creston students wind up at Flathead High School–which has an active I-B program, the transition would be almost seamless.
Creston School Principal Cheryl Peterson expect State approval and accreditation sometime this summer.
