It’s becoming clear that Montana politics is becoming a “team sport”. Case in point: The Flathead County Republican Central Committee has aligned itself with the State GOP, doing something it hasn’t done in most people’s memories: endorsing candidates in the primary elections June 2nd. What’s surprising to some is that some endorsements are for incumbent Republican’s opponents.
In Flathead County, the endorsements favor Shaun Pandina over incumbent Lyn Bennett, Luke Maxwell over incumbent Courtenay Sprunger.
Across the state, the State GOP has called-out 9-Senators and 12-Representatives who voted with Democrats on some key legislation, including Property Tax Relief bills. Calling the Senators “The Nasty Nine” and the House Members at “The Dirty Dozen”, the aim of Party Chair Art Wittich is the promote party unity.
Locally, the Flathead County GOP Central Committee has endorsed Sheriff Brian Heino’s opponent Evie Cahalen. It can be noted that Cahalen is the Chair of the Flathead County Republic Women. The Committee did, however, stand behind County Commissioner Brad Abel in his reelection bid.
