The Associated Press is reporting that President Donald Trump is planning to place 25% tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico beginning Saturday, February 1st. At her White House Press Briefing Friday morning, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, “These are promised made and promises kept by the President.”
In the Oval Office, Trump says there was nothing the countries could do to prevent the tariffs. On top of the 25% tariffs placed on Canada and Mexico, the President placed a 10% tariff on goods coming in from China.
Trump said he was weighing the prospect of excluding oil from Canada and Mexico.
Meanwhile, both Canada and Mexico plan a response, but stated nothing specific.
